The next few days flew by relatively quickly, and before you knew it, it was time to return to the Library. Dolphe had stayed over nearly every night of your suspension, and neither of you had any complaints.
You shouldered your bag and exited your car, taking in the sight of the dreary gray-toned building, and a slight surge shot through your chest as you walked across the parking lot, not knowing exactly what awaited you inside. You rode the elevator down in silence, alone with your numbing thoughts until the doors slid open and you were presented with the familiar labyrinth of hallways and offices. From what you could gather, you'd been escorted to a cell, different from the arena that you had awoken in initially. The journey had been hazy, but you definitely remembered blacking out on several occasions. Two humanoid guards- you couldn't remember anything else about them, for the life of you- had taken either of your arms roughly, parading you through a mostly disgruntled audience. Looks of disapproval, the occasional inspired face, etched their ways across your mind, then blackness.
Misty, synthetic light filtered through opaque fixtures, causing dust motes that were dancing through the air to glint and glitter.

You woke with a gasp, sputtering and heaving, trying to force oxygen to course through your starved lungs. After a violent coughing fit, you raised a shaking arm to wipe your mouth, realizing that you were in absolute pitch darkness. You tried adjusting your eyes, to no avail. Feeling behind your ear, you discovered your earpiece/visor was missing, and you let out a stream of curses. Your boots had been removed, as well as your socks, and your jacket was still in the cargo hold. It was downright arctic, and you felt like you had just woken up from a slumber in a deep freezer.

Four F-bombs later, and you were dragging Lena from the mutli-colored lit dance floor by her elbow, drunkenly marching towards the exit. Luckily, the bar was within walking distance from your apartment, so for the next twenty minutes you held onto Lena's slight frame, pointing her in the right direction and making sure she didn't fall face-first off the side of the curb and onto the asphalt.
Arriving at the old brick building that was your apartment complex, you fumbled for your keys. Lena giggled in your ear as you tried in vain to slip the metal into the keyhole, and despite the awareness you had of your surroundings, you found y

Your heart slammed to a halt in your chest, and your left eye twitched. “Hm?” Not believing what you'd heard, you asked again. “What was that?”
A coy smile spread across his lips and he glanced down. “If it's alright with you, that is.”
You gulped. “Sure. You're free to stay as long as you want,” you said in a hollow voice.
He rolled his eyes, advancing towards you and placing a hand against the glass by your head.
“Why must you be so difficult,” he groaned, lowering his face and delicately pressing his forehead to yours. You stood, stunned, and looked up

The world shot by in a vertical blur of brown and gray; the dirt and rocks collapsing around you were the only company in your freefall towards Xandar's molten core. Flailing your arms in a wild effort, you snagged a chunk of solid ground, crying out as rough rock bit into your nails and you slowed to a stop against the sheer face of the stony column.
Kicking your boot into the side of the rock, you fought to carve out a foothole, something, anything to help you keep your balance. Panting, you slowly scraped your fingers against the siding, trying to deepen the crevice you'd made without obliterating it completely.

Lena took a dainty sip from her martini, tucking a strand of platinum hair behind her ear as you rolled your eyes.
“I said I really don't want to talk about it.” You grasped your glass on the counter in front of you with both hands, shoulders hunched forward. The techno music pulsed around you, the vibrations causing rhythmic ripples to mar the surface of your drink.
“Clearly,” she yelled over the roaring cacophony. She flagged down the bartender with a tanned hand as you drained the last of your drink. “Two more, thank you!” She shouted.

More like “absolute and decimating mortification” and probably, definitely, a surplus of disgust. He grabbed your wrist in his large hand and marched you down the hall to his office, slamming the door shut and tossing you at the nearest plush chair.

Loki was waiting for you as you entered the dark room, standing in the center of the cramped space about two feet from the window, hands behind his back.
“Good morning to you, agent,” he said coyly. “How was your rendezvous with Agent Dolphe last night? Anything eventful happen?”

You covered your mouth and swallowed your current bite, nodding your head. “It's good. Yours?”
“A bit dry, but if it's good enough for the lady, it's good enough for me,” Dolphe smiled, spearing a piece of steamed broccoli with the end of his fork.
You fidgeted slightly, bundling the napkin in your lap with tense fingers. “So you said you had some more information on the...subject?” You asked warily, thinking it be

You focus, willing your hand to steady (Strange says you could have never been a surgeon). This is detailed work. Work you have assigned yourself. Why? Because it's fun! Forget the fact that your legs and back ache from standing all morning, your work is coming out satisfactory so far. You'd even go so far as to say you're proud of it. Though it's doubtful anyone will appreciate the work you've put in.

You know the last time I was in Germany and I saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing. The words had echoed back into his mind as he had poured over Mein Kampf. Searching for an explanation for the atrocities he could barely stand to read. The weight behind them. I would never- He kneaded his forehead as flashes of his first days in Stuttgart rose to the surface, the screams that still echoed in his mind. A man standing above everybody else... But he wasn't a man, he was a god. Not to men like you. Not just a god, a good king. Earth would be lucky to have someone as wise and benevolent as he. Those books were proof. I never- He closed his eyes against the memories and the searing pain of Thanos' intrusion in his mind. I'm not him. Her face appeared in his thoughts, haughty and unyielding. An unwelcome presence on an uneasy night. She thinks me like that filth. And even in his mind, she was contrary. No...merely being not evil. He sat up, scowling at the

Opening the cupboard, you hummed curiously at the red vial the hissed and frothed. For a moment you bit your lip. This sort of thing didn’t particularly bode well, but then again, you were really thirsty and there was nothing else to drink, you didn’t even know where to get water around here.
Loki had been called away to an emergency meeting and he could be gone for any number of hours, or he could be back in a manner of minutes.
You held up the vial and stared at it, you were really thirsty. Sighing and shrugging, you decided it was Loki’s fault and you would blame him for whatever happened. Surely he wouldn’t leave

With a grunt, you hoisted the Asgardian into the air, grasping him by the throat and slammed him into the ground. There was silence for a moment as those watching stared in silent awe. Slowly you straightened up, looking around for another contender. The man on the ground struggled for a moment before falling still.
‘Stay down.’ You growled, sticking your boot on his chest, 'You’re beaten.’
Cheers rang out, men and women alike. Flagons of mead ran freely as drunken song started up at your exploits. You gazed around the ring of Asgardians, looking for other possible contenders, but no one else seemed keen on stepping

Knives were not meant to be such tempting objects.
You knew this. It made total sense for a blade and handle to be put together, and none at all for the combination to arouse such appreciation in you.
Yet you found yourself riveted despite yourself, glance darting back to the beautiful sight of smooth silver blade effortlessly scoring a path through vivid, hyper-saturated yellow.
A gentle but repeated prodding at your side jolted you from your thoughts and you turned towards the disturbance, eyes sliding away from the knife’s graceful path only when the angle of your neck made it impossible to remain there.

but if I open my arms and expose my true nature
then maybe I can bleed out the half of me that came from you
and hold some pride in the traits that remain after
